The 8th International Forum and Workshop on Combined Heat, Air, Moisture and Pollutant Simulations (CHAMPS), hosted by Nanjing University s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, was held in Nanjing on March 20.
Upwards of 100 experts on building environmental systems attended the forum including President Francis Allard of the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning Associations (REHVA), President Carston Rode of the International Association of Building Physics (IABP), and academics from over 20 prestigious universities at home and abroad.
Prof. Zhang Rong, Executive Vice President of Nanjing University, delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. In his speech, Vice President Zhang briefed the guests on the development of Nanjing University and its School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and also the School s research achievements in building energy conservation. He emphasized the importance of sustainable architecture research and restated Nanjing University s support for the research.
After the opening ceremony, REHVA President Francis Allard and Executive Director Edward Bogucz of the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems were invited to deliver keynote speeches.
CHAMPS 2011 highlights future challenges that will reach beyond the traditional scope of environmental systems research, for example, methodology and tools for coordinated and integrated urban and building systems design, impact of climate change on indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency and durability of buildings, micro-urban climate research, the long-term implications of green building design, connections between indoor, local and regional outdoor air quality.
