On the evening of May 24, students and faculty members from School of Textile & Clothing at Jiangnan university and University of Nebraska Lincoln, the United States jointly organized a joint fashion show of excellent graduation design of clothing in the show lounge of School of Textile & Clothing. Dozens of students from the two sides performed on the stage, wonderfully demonstrating more than 100 sets of Chinese and foreign students works from 30 group series.

These creative works changed the whole performance into an art scene full of youth, vigor and imagination, presenting a fashion feast for the all the guests present.

Chinese students tried multi-cultural fashion design. In the show of Chinese students works, the audience enjoyed a variety of themes, such as retro style, post-modern style, punk style, ethnic style, deconstruction and environmental protection. Perfect costume design and matching demonstrated the solid professional knowledge and excellent hands-on abilities of textile & clothing majors.

Students ability in the fabric re-creation is particularly impressive: they skillfully used various kinds of techniques such as hand-painting, collage, beading and folding so as to let the fabrics become more fashionable. More surprisingly, students from the majors of clothing and fashion show, without the background of professional design knowledge, have a good understanding and unique concept towards clothing design after four years study in school, thus presenting their works with more creativity and vitality.

The performance put on by textile & clothing majors of Jiangnan University could be regarded as a carefully prepared visual feast for all of the audience, while the performance by the clothing majors of University of Nebraska Lincoln was full of authentic American flavor. All of the works were designed, produced, and personally presented by the students of the major.

Although they had no professional training in catwalks, they just perfectly exhibited the soul of their design due to the understanding of their own works. Their works focused on draping and manual dexterity, such as dyeing and weaving, etc., through which we saw more collision of traditional and modern thinking.

The joint performance attracted a large number of students and a variety of famous clothing makers, including Hongdou, Hems, Fuji and so on. During the performance, they pleasantly interacted with American designers coming from afar. The scene is a magnificent spectacle with praises and applauses from the audience now and again.

Experts and leaders in and off the industry highly acclaimed and praised the performance. Design has no borders, and language is neither a problem. Teachers from University of Nebraska Lincoln gave their thumbs up and commented excitedly that this time was the best in spite of their visits to France and London.

School of Textile & Clothing at Jiangnan university has always attached great importance to graduation ceremony. Since the inception of this major, the graduation ceremonies have been held for more than 20 times. The school regards the graduation performance of each year as a critical part of teaching, and builds a platform for students to show and improve themselves by giving them the chance to present their own works through catwalks.

The joint performance by both Chinese and American students this year have made the whole performance more of a global perspective, and provided a good platform for Chinese and foreign students to further strengthen their exchanges and communication and build their friendship.

University of Nebraska Lincoln is the academic and cultural center of Nebraska, the first university to grant PhD in the western United States, and one of the 50 universities granting the largest number of doctoral degree each year in the United States. It is awarded as the second-level national university. Professor Yang Yiqi, working in University of Nebraska Lincoln, was engaged by Jiangnan University as a Cheung Kong Scholar in textile & clothing in 2008. This time Professor Yang personally led four foreign teachers and 30 students to Jiangnan University to carry out exchange activities.
Wangwu, Vice President of Jiangnan University, in the accompany of leaders of School of Textile & Clothing, watched the performance.
