Write: Aegeon [2011-05-20]

On January 18th, backwater with ice bar appeared in Hukou waterfall section (2.2 km upstream and 0.8 km downstream ) on the Yellow River. As fled in time, no casualties and grave loss have been caused, and no other ice flood happened along the Yellow River.

The river water with the melting ice caused by local rising temperature in partial sections pushed the ice downstream and made the ice jam and backwater, according to primary analysis.

The ice flood blocked 3 km road from Hukou Waterfall to Kenanpo, and 200 people of 50 households in Mawangmiao Village upstream the waterfall were involved. The local government has closed the Hukou Waterfall and Kenanpo scenic spots, and meanwhile, suitable measures for disaster relief work, evacuating residents and tourists, delivering relief materials and so on have been conducted.

Workgroup dispatched by the Yellow River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarter has gone up to the flooded area for guiding and assisting the flood relief work.
