30 Million Yuan Increase in Wuming Rice Output

It is revealed by the agricultural department of Wuming that more than 180,000 mu of early rice and late rice was planted scientifically, producing a total of 92.97336 million kg of rice and increasing 33 million yuan of output value. The double cropping rice averaged 1,028.2 kg per mu, an increase of 145 kg and over 200 yuan per mu compared with the control paddy field, thus realizing an increase both in output and farmers income through planting super rice.

Last year, Wuming County regarded promotion of planting super rice as an important measure to realize security of grain production and farmers income increase, and both the county, towns, villages (communities) and the agriculture-related departments of all levels planned early, organized elaborately, and implemented the measures. First, efforts were made to ensure 180,000 mu of planned planting area of double cropping super rice in the county, 108,000 mu of which was early super rice and 72,000 mu of which was late super rice. Second, technical spreading and training were intensified at all levels: 55 times of itinerant promotions for extending science and technology to the countryside, 142 technical training classes were conducted with over 100,000 farmers trained, and over 130,000 copies of technical materials issued. Third, quality varieties of super rice were introduced and promoted, mainly promoting the planting of Y Liangyou No. 1, Tianyou 998 and 3550, Tianfengyou 998, Xinliangyou No. 6 and 6380, Jinyou No. 1, and Yongyou No. 6. Fourth, demonstration places were established to bring along the production of the whole county. Due to the effective measures, the early super rice and late super rice grew very well and a bumper harvest was reaped. 108,000 mu of early super rice was planted, averaging 526.2 kg per mu, and 72,000 mu of late super rice was planted, averaging 502 kg per mu, an increase of 80 kg and 65 kg respectively compared with that of the control paddy field.
