Three Experts from CAAS Awarded as National Model Workers and Outstanding Staff

April 27-the awarding ceremony of national model workers and outstanding staff (2010) was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In total, 2985 people were awarded as model workers and outstanding staff throughout the country. Three research fellows from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS): Guo Sandui, expert on bio-technology, Li Yunchang, expert on oil bearing crops, and Liu Jisheng, expert of veterinary service from Lanzhou, were awarded as the model workers and outstanding staff (2010) for their remarkable work in agricultural technology.

Guo Sandui, an expert of molecular bio-technology and genetic engineering, has made great progress in the research of pest resistant cotton. He has gained 11 national patents, of which two have won gold and excellent prizes. He is also laureate of 11 prizes of technological invention and advancement, including one second prize of national technological invention and two second prizes of national technological advancement.

Li Yunchang is an expert of oil rape breeding. He has been engaged in the research and extension of breeding technologies of oil rape for a long time, successfully developing 15 varieties featuring high quality and yield. In 2004, his research outcome was awarded the second prize of national technological advancement to honor his outstanding contribution to the cultivation of oil rape in China.

Liu Jisheng is an expert on veterinary service. He has made important breakthroughs in the research of genetic engineering vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease and dual-function vaccine for prevention and treatment. He has been applying for two international patents and eight national patents, five of which already gained approvals. He is also laureate of five prizes of technological award at ministerial and provincial level, and the recipient of special allowance of the State Council.
