On August 13, China s first self-designed and self-developed Nanfeng fishery research ship completed its maiden voyage successfully. During the 11-day sail starting on August 3 in Guangzhou, Nanfeng research ship from the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) made a voyage of 1,540 nautical miles.
This voyage succeeded in conducting research on the ecological environment of fisheries in 11 stations and 12 trawling operations.
The research provided a bird s eye view of the marine cephalopod resources and its habitat in the waters off the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea, as well as the interrelationship between the depth of the trawl gear used in mid-water trawling and the length of the trawl net and the trawling speed, thus offering basic data and experience for Nanfeng research ship to conduct research in this regard.
