On 1st December, the Most Valuable Chinese Brands in 2009 was published in New York. Midea ranked No.6 with a brand value of RMB45.333 billion, 9% higher than the previous year, and ranked No.1 among the top ten Chinese brands in respect of its brand value appreciation over the previous year.
Upon the entrustment by the appraisal and research institute, William Spitler, the former chief of the New York Office of the Department of Commerce of the United States, and the chairman of the Global SME Alliance announced the most valuable Chinese brands in 2009: Haier, RMB81.2 billion, ranking No.1 for eight consecutive year, followed by Lenovo, RMB68.2 billion, Gome, RMB55.3 billion, Wuliangye, RMB47.206 billion, FAW, RMB45.502 billion, Midea, RMB45.333 billion, and TCL, RMB41.738 billion.
In 2009, under the background of the international financial crisis, Midea Group did not cut its budget for brand investment, but rather, enhanced its strength in brand building. By renewing the contract with the Chinese national diving team, Midea made another effort in sports marketing. It also provided a fund of RMB12 million in awarding the technical talents, and actively promoted publicly benefiting measures such as bringing household appliances to the rural area. Midea s brand value is rising and its goodwill is further improved.
The ranking list shows that, there is no obvious change to the pyramid structure of the most valuable Chinese brands. Compared to the previous year, the top 1 to 7 brands are the same, indicating that the industrial leaders all have a solid position and the brand value concentration is higher and higher. Haier, Lenovo, Gome, Midea and TCL, these five major household appliances manufacturers and their related businesses have a total brand value of RMB291.7 billion, much higher than the total brand value of the other 70 brands on the list, which is RMB236.3 billion. It proves the anti-risk ability and real value of the good Chinese household appliance brands after the challenge of the financial crisis.
The most valuable Chinese brand is a research that has been jointly conducted for 16 years by the Ruifu Global Rank and Beijing Famous Brand Asset Appraisal Co., Ltd.. This is also the comparative value research that is the earliest research and also lasting for the longest period for competitive consumer goods brands. It has become an important reference for overseas and local investors, consumers and all walks of life to understand Chinese brands.
