BOC Olympic Knight Mr. Zhang Wannian arrives in Changsha

Zhang Wannian, a BOC retiree on a solo bike tour around China to promote the Olympic spirit as well as BOC s image, arrives in Changsha, capital city of Hunan Province, on June 21th, after an arduous journey through Lilin and Liuyang in the province. A grand reception is held at 3o clock in the afternoon in front of the International Financial Tower as BOC Hunan Branch s special welcome.

The reception, chaired by Mr. Zhang Shuguang, secretary of party discipline committee of BOC Hunan Branch, features a flag-raising ceremony. When the BOC flag with the Olympic official partner logo is hoisted, everybody present is filled with pride as a member of BOC.

Mr. Wang Jianqiang, general manager of BOC Hunan Branch, highly praises Zhang s efforts for BOC and the Olympic Games and calls upon all the staff to inject their passion and brilliance into the century-old BOC brand name and contribute to the Olympics. Mr. Zhang gives an enthusiastic reply speech and attends the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with Mr. Wang to publicize the Olympic logo in Hunan Branch.

Encouraged by Mr. Zhang s spirit, 30 Hunan branch staffers, led by Mr. Zhang, starts a city-round bike campaign to promote the Olympic Games in 38 C temperature. All the riders dress in white uniform labeled with Olympic logo to promote the partnership of BOC and 2008 Olympic Games.

Mr. Zhang Wannian deeply impresses Changsha s traffic police. The policemen voluntarily escort Mr. Zhang s bike tour around the city, securing the success of this event. Mainstream media, including Hunan Satellite TV, follows the whole event and records moving pictures.

The amateur mountaineers of Chigang Branch in Changsha coincidently met Mr. Zhang in Qinhai Province in 2004. As old friends, they come to share the experience of promoting Olympic Spirit after hearing Mr. Zhang s arrival.

Mr. Zhang, with a piece of calligraphy from Zhang Shuguang, who is also the member of China Calligrapher Association, deeply cherishes his experience in Hunan and expresses his longing for a visit to Shaoshan, the birthplace of Chairman Mao.
