The 101st CAE (ChineseAcademy of Engineering) Forum on Engineering Science and Technology - Summit Symposium of Hip Surgery was successfully held from July 31st to August 1st in the city of Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The CAE Forum on Engineering Science and Technology refers to a series of academic and educational symposiums with the purpose of assembling knowledge and intelligence of academic masters to study and solve the most concerned, most controversial, most demanding and toughest issues so as to guide and motivate development in some specific academic realms.
The 101st CAE Forum was organized by CAE, co-organized by the medical department of CAE, Chinese Orthopaedic Association (COA) and its joint surgery division, and executed by hospital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the 2nd affiliated hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical College and Chinese Journal of Joint Surgery. The 101st Forum also received massive support from the local government.
Due to the facts that there are lots of patients in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region suffering from hip diseases for weather and career reasons, the medical resources are relatively insufficient and the local medical staff are in need of more training so as to be more competent in handling the up-to-date knowledge and techniques, therefore, Hohhot was chosen to be the city to host the 101st CAE Forum. The major subject focuses on hip surgery in the hope of building up a platform of communication and academic exchanges, which could improve and balance the professional level on hip surgery within our country, especially between southeastern China and less developed northwestern China. It is also an intentional endeavor to help fulfill the national strategy of Developing the Great Northwest.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Batere (Chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government), Prof. Fan Daiming (Vice President of CAE), Prof. Qiu Guixing (President of COA) and Prof. Wu Mingjiang (Vice-President of Chinese Medical Association, CMA) gave opening addresses respectively to express sincere congratulations for the forum and warm welcome to the guests.
The forum began with speeches presented by Members of CAE. Other Members, such as Prof. Liu Depei, Prof. Yang Shengli, Prof. Dai Kerong and Prof. Lu Shibi also gave impressive speeches. All these lectures drew great interest of the audience and earned lots of applauses.
Then Prof. Pei Fuxing, Prof. L Houshan, Prof. Yang Qingming, Prof. Wu Haishan, Prof. Zhang Ke, Prof. Weng Xisheng, Prof. L Long, Prof. Wang Kunzheng, Prof. Yang Liu, Prof. Y Nansheng, Prof. Yan Shigui, Prof. Zhou Yixiong, Prof. Li Zirong and other distinguished specialists of joint surgery all over China gave lectures on various topics related to hip surgery, from basic knowledge to the most advanced subjects, including primary and revision THA (total hip arthroplasty), complications of hip surgery and many other challenging issues related with diagnosis and treatment of hip disorders. In the last section of the forum, many attendees joined in the lively interactive case study and discussion, which brought the meeting into a climax, thus a great success.
Over 400 conferees participated in this grand meeting, including health care practitioners from hospitals, specialists from CAE, CMA, COA and government officials, who all believed that it s a great opportunity for the orthopaedic institutes in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to catch up with the academic development of advanced hospitals. During the meeting, Prof. Qiu Guixing announced a special offer that COA would sponsor 10 doctors from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to attend the COA meeting in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province later this year. This conduct, it is believed that, will encourage and help medical workers and colleagues in hospitals in less developed regions to improve their skills and techniques, to upgrade the quality of medical service, which, in turn, will help to achieve our ultimate goal of benefiting the patients.
