The Sino-Russia Symposium on Mechanisms Underlying the Eutrophication Processes in Lakes and Their Restoration Strategies Held at IHB

Prof. Alexander Alimov, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences made a presentation entitled Regularities of Hydrobiological Regime in Lakes of Different Trophicity at the Sino-Russia symposium held at IHB, Sept. 22, 2009

The Sino-Russia Symposium on Mechanisms Underlying the Eutrophication Processes in Lakes and Their Restoration Strategies was held at IHB during Sept. 22 to 23, 2009. IHB Prof. Yiyong ZHOU chaired the symposium and Prof. Alexander Alimov, academician of Russian Academy of Sciences led an eight-member delegation consisting of professors from Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences to attend this symposium. Other participants included: Prof. Fengchang WU from Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Boping HAN from Research Center of Hydrobiology of Jinan University, Dr. Gaofeng ZHAO from the Department of Water Environment of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Profs. Qinglong WU and Yuwei CHEN from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology (CAS) and experts from Institute of Hydrobiology (CAS).

At the symposium, both Chinese and Russian scientists had an extensive and in-depth communication on the mechanisms underlying the eutrophication processes in lakes and their restoration strategies. They also reached a preliminary agreement on future cooperation and academic exchanges between both sides.

The Sino-Russia Symposium, organized by IHB and co-organized by Hubei Oceanography and Limnology Society was sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) and State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology.
