The prize-awarding ceremony of the 6th WCG(Part ) was held yesterday. The reporters have got the relative information about the medals and cups of WCG from the Organization Committee. On the whole, they bear distinct features of Shaoxing, the host city.
The convention has been followed ever since the 1st WCG in Linz, Austria in 2000 that the medals and cups of WCG should be designed by the host city. Accordingly, they were devised by the artists in Shaoxing this time.
The medal looks like qing, an ancient percussion instrument in China. Different sounds can be heard if you strike the different parts of gu(drum). It has rich cultural connotations and displays the long history of the 2500-year-old city.
The 5 curves on the medal stand for the wishes of people in 5 continents, stressing its international characters. The yong(handle) has a shape similar to that of a circular arch bridge, highlighting the feature of the bridge city. Each medal weighs around 120g.
The cup looks nobler and more elegant. The neck has the shape of a deformed badge of WCG. The roundel in the middle can make 360-degree circumrotations. Engraved on the two sides of the roundel are the badge of WCG and that of the 6th WCG respectively.
