Chip-resistor maker Ta-I Technology has begun small volume shipments of LED heat sink substrates, and its monthly capacity will eventually expand to 200,000 units based on the company product roadmap, according to industry sources.
While contribution from sales of LED heat sink substrates will gradually expand starting the second half of the year, the segment's share of Ta-I's total revenues will remain in the single digits in 2011, said the sources.
Ta-I also plans to ramp up its capacity for protective components by 25-30% this year as the products yield a gross margin higher than that from chip-resistors, the sources added. Sales of protective components accounted for 15% Ta-I's total revenues in 2010.
