The second stage construction of the Water Outlet Ecological Park was completed on January 23, 2009. A sightseeing platform with integration of elements of Chinese traditional culture and elements of Yuxi regional culture was open to citizens of Yuxi before the Chinese New Year.
The sightseeing platform is in the core position of the ecological park. The sightseeing road is 40 meters long with artificial waterfall and the water outlet tunnel at one end. The platform consists of three parts with a square platform in the front, an oval square in the middle and a elevated platform in the back. The total construction area is 4,800 square meters which presents the traditional arrangement with axis symmetry and integrates many elements of traditional Chinese culture.
The book-shaped Jianbo is 9.9 meters long, 2.6 meters high and 4.9 meters wide. It is made of two materials: the upper section is made of bronze on which records of the general information and the significance of water-route alternation project is engraved and the lower section is made of green granite from Fujian Province with the map of the project engraved at the back. The Jianbo is a monument of the water-route alternation project which is an act unprecedented in the history of China.
The floor of the oval square in the middle is covered with stone flags of two colors that incorporate together according to their color differences, which demonstrates the idea of harmony and indicates evolution of the world. Two pools are arranged on the south and the north of the square. Fountains are formed by using the height difference of the waterfall and the water can erupt as high as six meters. Nine dragon heads are built around each pool and they all erupt water towards the fountain in the middle, which forms a scene called nine dragons playing with water .
The rectangle-shaped platform elevated in the back is in the form of Ruyi, the traditional auspicious object in China. It is made of green granite. It reflects the well-off of Yuxi people, long history, rich culture, excellent environment and harmonious society of Yuxi. The sculpture is 16.6 meters long, 2.76 meters wide, and 0.8 to 1.8 meters high.
Meanwhile, the 5-kilometer long ecological road on Yuxi-Jiangchuan Highway was also completed with About 13,000 persimmon trees planted, which is unique in Yuxi, Yunnan Province, and even the whole country. Zhu Yinghui, the director of Construction Bureau of Yuxi said, Persimmon trees only grow well in places with good ecological environment, which indicates the environmental quality of Yuxi. Also, the choice of persimmon trees is to add more characteristic to Yuxi and purposefully create tourism brand.
