Chengdu picks panda ambassadors

The selection of pambassadors , a project to seek six panda keepers globally, concluded on Sept. 29 in Chengdu when the panel announced the winners chosen from thousands of candidates.
They are: Wang Yu-wen from Taiwan Province, Huang Xi from the Chinese mainland, David Algranti from France, Ali Shakonrian from Sweden, Ashley Robertson from the
United States and Yumiko Kajiwara from Japan.
The project started in June and registered over 60 thousand applications from 52 countries and regions across the world. It caused a splash among panda fans in the world and the offi cial website of the project organizer received more than 830 thousand visits during the period.
The six pambassadors will begin working with the pandas on Oct. 4 and blog about their experiences to help raise public awareness about the endangered animals. They will also trek into the mountains around Chengdu to study pandas in their natural habitat.
The project also drew the attention from media organizations in the world, with over 70 major agenciesfrom France, the UK, Japan, Australia, Canada and the US reporting the final event, including AFP, ABC, CBS, BBC, APTV, CTV, WA Today, Nippon TV and TV Asahi.
