2011 Chengdu Rural Tourism Festival, with the theme of urban life and countryside travel , will kick off on March 22 with colorful programs to attract local residents to a number of rural spots around the city.
The month-long event is sponsored by Chengdu municipal government, provincial and municipal
departments of agriculture and tourism, and governments at district and county levels under the administration of Chengdu. The festival will be a showcase of sightseeing sites in the countryside and is expected to promote the growth of rural tourism of the city.
Chengdu is the birthplace of Nongjiale (rural catering and travel operations) in China and rural tourism
of the city is experiencing a rapid development and upgrading process, with scenic spots, resorts, towns of
cultural and architectural styles and Nongjiale operations mushrooming in the rural areas around the city in recent years.Officials from local tourism departments said thatprograms with distinctive local characteristics will be held in dozens of places during the festival, including flower appreciation, mountain climbing, ecological travel and tea picking.
