The export-oriented agriculture in Sichuan Province has gained speed: in 2009, 119 enterprises exceeded one million dollars in agricultural product export, with 14 of them above $10 million. The total export volume for agricultural product reached $560 million. According to the person in charge in Sichuan Agriculture Department on April 6th, the province s export volume will exceed $1.5 billion by 2012.
The 14 enterprises with export volume over $10 million mainly focus on tobacco, wine, edible fungus, traditional Chinese medicine to the countries and regions such as the USA, Germany, Japan and so on.. The main products for export are natural silk, edible fungus, traditional Chinese medicine, seed, vegetable and wine, accounting for 70% of the total. The export for hybrid rice seed has become a bright spot in recent years.
Up to 2009, the province has had 4.1 million mu of export base for special export-oriented agricultural product, up by 18.3% compared with last year, which, By 2012, is estimated to increase to 10 million mu. Based on the distribution of the special export-oriented agricultural product, the province will build an export base frame with ChengMian-ChengLe highway the main body and ChengYu-ChengYa highway two wings.
The province will develop seven bases: the export base for tea product in Yibin, Leshan and Ya an; the export base for silk and ramie in Nanchong and Dazhou; the double-hybrid seed base in Mianyang, Deyang and Meishan; the wine export and processing base in Yibin, Luzhou, Deyang and Chengdu; the export and processing base for fruit, vegetable and the tropical fruit of Panxi in Chengdu, Luzhou, Yibin, Leshan, Meishan, Ya an and Guangyuan; the export base for traditional Chinese medicine and delicacies from mountains in Ganzi, Aba, Liangshan and Bazhong; the potato producing-processing- export base in Liangshan, Ya an and Pengzhou mountainous region.
