On March 25, from the Chengdu Seminar on Promoting the Development of Catering Industry and Creating the International Gastronomy Capital, reporters learned that Chengdu Commerce Bureau recently drew up Work Programme on Promoting the Development of Catering Industry and Creating the International Gastronomy Capital (from 2010 to 2012), thus clearly setting the developing goal of Chengdu catering industry, which includes to set up logistics distribution center for catering industry, to launch folk gourmet competitions and to train 1,000 talents for international catering annually, etc.
The Work Programme claims that in the aspect of training talents for catering, Chengdu will train 1,000 talents for international catering annually, over 2,000 talents for international Sichuan Cuisine, 30 national and international standard cooking masters, and build six community nutrition schools.
To ensure food safety is also the focus of the development of the catering industry. In accordance with green food manufacturing practices, the relevant departments will promote the construction of Pixian Sichuan Cuisine Industrialization Base, Tanyutou Raw and Auxiliary Materials Production Base, the Municipal Catering Company's Sichuan Cuisine Industrial Park and others. Logistics distribution center for catering industry and the quality of track and trace systems of raw and auxiliary materials will also be set up.
In the aspect of brand marketing and promoting of "the Gastronomy Capital", "the Gastronomy Capital" World Tour and other exchange activities will be held and Chengdu food industry database and "Chengdu Gastronomy Capital" portal will be created. Each year, the folk gourmet competitions, community culinary awards competition, family culinary skills contests and other activities will be launched in order to continuously carry forward the traditional cuisine.
At the same time, our city will redouble our efforts to recruit foreign investment, and strive to introduce Burger King, Long John Silver's, Hardee's and other well-known multinational food companies to develop in Chengdu.
The Work Programme also divides the construction of gourmet domain into three sectors, with each having its own focus. In the construction of featured food streets (or blocks) and the ancient towns, trade mix planning of six featured food streets (or blocks) including Kuanzhai Alley will be perfected and Yanshikou Snack City will be built.
In the construction of tourist attractions and tourist hubs, we strive to set up B & F concentrations, to promote Xinjin Freshwater Fishes Diet Culture District, and to construct the second phase project of Longquan-Luodai Pedestrian Street and others. In the construction of large commercial centers and communities, we try to introduce Cantonese cuisine, Shandong cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine and other key domestic flavor genres into the food plaza, to accelerate the construction and decoration of Huaqiao City Commercial Plaza, to fully integrate the available resources in Chenghua District so as to form a concentrated development area of Chengdong medium-to-high grade catering industry.
