In Taipei's Zhongshan Square, a ceremony last week marked Guangdong Week in Taiwan and welcomed 2,000 Guangdong tourists to the island.
Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua and Lai Se-Zhen, Director of Taiwan's Tourism Bureau attended the ceremony. Governor Huang said that since charter flights between the two places have started, communication between Guangdong and Taiwan has improved.
In 2009, 125,000 Guangdong tourists visited Taiwan, accounting for one-fifth of the mainland's total number. The figure may surpass 180,000 this year. Governor Huang said that the two sides' tourism sectors are complementary, and he hopes that cooperation will be deepened.
