Armed police take part in an anti-terror drill in Dongguan, Guangdong, in preparation for better security ahead of the Asian Games, to be held in Guangzhou, the provincial capital, from Nov. 12 to 27. A total of 150 special forces soldiers are undergoing months of training to hone their endurance, shooting skills and anti-terrorism awareness in advance of the Asian Games.
Security checks will be conducted on major transport hubs in Guangdong and neighboring regions from November 1 until the end of the Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported last week.
To ensure tight security during the 16th Asian Games, 30 checkpoints have been set up on Guangdong s main roads and 24 checkpoints including several roads in neighboring Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi and Hainan.
In Jiangxi, all postal and express services to Guangzhou will register the information of consignors as articles pass go through additional security checks before being delivered. Guangzhou officials are also limiting the number of cars on the city s roads, halting construction work and restricting the sales of kitchen knives or other large cutting utelsils.
The Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou from November 12 to 27. More than 14,000 athletes, trainers and coaches from 45 countries and regions are expected to compete in 42 sports.
