"Guangdong hopes to further enhance cooperation with Singapore in accelerating Guangdong's economic transformation growth mode and building of Guangdong into a strong cultural province," said Liu Kun, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province who spoke at Singapore's 45th National Day reception in Guangzhou on August 9, an event that marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Singapore.
Liu Kun said that Guangdong and Singapore enjoy close cooperation in the area of trade and economy, culture, education, tourism and hi-tech. The establishment of the Knowledge City has also been a boon to the relationship between the two sides .
According to Liu, by the end of June this year, direct foreign investment from Singapore amounted to 6.19 billion USD. Imports and exports between Singapore and Guangdong reached 8.31 billion USD, a 30 percent year -on-year increase.
Singapore is expected to reach a 13 to 15 percent increase in economic growth in 2010, said Ang Chay Chuan, Consul General of Singapore in Guangzhou, who encouraged further cooperation with Guangdong officials.
