The Public Security Bureau last week announced a crackdown on foreigners residing or working illegally in Guangzhou. The municipal Land Resources and Housing Bureau announced that property management offices in Guangzhou will now have 24 hours to report foreigners moving into their premises. Failing to do so could lead to the revocation of their title as an "excellent" or "standard" housing community. These moves are aimed to control the foreign population living in the city ahead of the 16th Asian Games which opens in November.
