In less than 100 days, thousands of athletes and spectators are expected to descend on Guangzhou for the 16th Asian Games.
A total of 48 venues, many of which were renovated or reconstructed from old sports facilities, will be used for the Games. In Guangzhou University Town, eight stadiums were renovated and will be used during the Games.
The garden style of the Asian Games Village is designed to house 15,000 athletes, referees and officials. So far, more than 11,000 athletes have registered to compete in the 42 events in Guangzhou. Organizers say the games schedule will be announced in the near future.
Nearly 7,000 registered journalists will set a record for the most media coverage of any Asian Games.
"In addition to the 45 mainstream media outlets from 45 Asian nations and regions, media from countries around the world also will come to report," said Asian Games Vice Director Ren Tianhua.
So far more than 900,000 volunteers have registered to help out with the event and marketing for the Games has also set a new record of three billion RMB worth of sponsorship signed by more than 50 companies.
The torch relay for this Asian Games will be held only in Guangdong Province and the relay list will be announced in September.
