The 2010 Asian Games is accelerating Guangzhou's development through employment, tourism and consumption, city officials said last week.

Investment for the event will add 815 billion RMB (120 billion USD) to the local gross domestic product, said Yin Tao, director of the Institute of Industrial Economy and Enterprise Management at the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences and is expected to create 475,000 jobs.

City officials also expect more than 150,000 foreign and 500,000 domestic tourists to visit Guangzhou during the Asian Games, which runs from November 12 to 27. They are expected to bring income of about 542 million RMB (80 million USD) and 1 billion RMB (148 million USD), respectively. Added consumption is expected to generate about 1.9 billion RMB (280 million USD), resulting in a 4.5-billion RMB (665 million USD) increase in local GDP.
