On Feb 23, Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang said the development of China Southern Airlines strengthened Guangzhou's status as a national central city and improved Guangzhou's function as a comprehensive gateway city, and Guangzhou would further support China Southern Airlines in its development and vigorously speed up the development of airport economy.
Wan also said, Guangzhou would further heighten the function of air transport and comprehensive transport interchange hub of the Baiyun International Airport, converting the airport into a multifunctional international air hub by speeding up the construction of the third runway, the second terminal building and comprehensive interchange hub in the airport.
Guangzhou will offer preferential policies and supporting measures on finance, tax and program development, assist the China Southern Airlines in getting subsidy support from the provincial finance department and assist the China Southern Airlines in building the Guangzhou Aviation Town, setting up relevant institutions to promote program construction and promoting the construction of road network and other supporting infrastructural facilities in the industry park.
About 10 billion RMB will be invested in the project of Guangzhou Aviation Industry Town to build a industrial chain with the core of air transport and the cooperative development of other relevant industries, with the major construction projects including Southern Arilines Headquarters Base, Aviation Finance Center, etc.
