On March 20, Nils Andersen's delegation met Wan Qingliang, Mayor of Guangzhou. After discussion, Guangzhou Government and A.P. Moller - Maersk Group signed a Memorandum to strengthen strategic cooperation on infrastructure construction of ports in Guangzhou and on international container shipping. Agreement to reinforce cooperation on Nansha Port was signed between Guangzhou Port Group and Maersk Line, the largest operating unit in A.P. Moller - Maersk and the largest containers shipping company in the world.

Nansha Port is a core area for Guangzhou Port development. In 2010, Nansha's container throughput reached 7.16 million, among which nearly 2 million were standard containers of foreign trade. Maersk is the leading containers shipping company in the world. In 2006, APMT of A.P. Moller - Maersk Group invested on Nansha Port 2nd Phase as one of the key shareholders.
