The provincial meteorological observatory reminded residents to be aware of heatstroke and sunburn yesterday (June 4), warning the heat wave would continue over the coming week.
Maximum temperatures could reach 35 degrees Celsius in some parts of the Shenzhen at midday. The observatory recommended people avoid exposure to the sun between noon and 2 p.m. People going outdoors were advised to take precautions such as wearing a broad brimmed hat, long sleeves and sunglasses.
Temperatures on road surfaces could reach up to 60-70 degrees Celsius and construction workers were among those most susceptible to heatstroke, the observatory said.

Maximum temperatures will be between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow in most areas south of the Yangtze River.
China has a four-color heat warning system, with red being the highest, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
During a yellow alert, people are advised to reduce outdoor activities in the afternoon and employers should take precautionary measures to protect their staff from heatstroke if they work outdoors for long periods.
