From July 17 to 20, Guangzhou will test the vehicle limitation measures which shall be in place during the Asian Games. Drivers violating the odd-even numbered license plate measures will face a fine of up to 200 RMB and shall see 3 points deducted from their driving license.
But with millions of inhabitants potentially affected by this move, the municipality has promised to boost public transportation with additional buses and metros, and has asked citizens to avoid travellers during peak hours.
The Guangzhou Municipal Transportation Committee predicts that everyday 1.5 million additional passengers shall take the bus, 600,000 additional passengers shall board a metro, and 130,000 more people shall attempt to find a taxi.
Suggestions:
1) For private cars: Out early and home late
The vehicle limitation measures are applied from 7am to 10pm from Saturday (July 17) to Tuesday (July 20). Leave early for work on the days your vehicle is banned from the road and return home later.
2) Bus: 544 more buses added
The operating times on over 110 bus routes will be extended, starting earlier in the morning and finishing later at night. 554 additional buses will put into use across the city.
3) Metro: trains frequency increased
The time between trains on metro line 1 and line 2 will be shorten to 3 minutes; line 3 will be 3 minutes and a half; line 4 and line 5 will be 4 minutes.
4) Taxi: shift in different time period
Taxis will be encouraged to change shifts at different times of the day, especially avoiding peak hours.
5) Shuttle bus: more vehicles planned
Many residential communities on the outskirts of Guangzhou such as Clifford and Country Garden are planning to add more shuttle buses.
6) Coach: more cars to Conghua, Zengcheng
More coaches will commute from Guangzhou to Conghua and Zengcheng.
