Shenzhen's human resources bureau announced yesterday (July 5) it has started soliciting recommendations for candidates for the first Shenzhen Outstanding Talent Award.
Expatriates will be eligible for the award, which is also open to local candidates, whether they have Shenzhen hukou or not. The 500,000-RMB (73,520 USD) award will be presented to winners who have made outstanding contribution to science, culture, education, medical care, sports, engineering technologies and other fields in the past five years.
The award will be presented once every two years. Ten winners will be selected on each occasion. Each winner will receive 500,000 RMB and an award certificate from the municipal government, and employers and experts are allowed to nominate candidates.
Recommendations for this year's award must be submitted before July 30. Details can be viewed at www.szhrss.gov.cn (Chinese only).
The bureau said the award was part of the city's efforts to build a pool of high-caliber talent.
Candidates must be holders of inventions or patents at provincial level or above, or winners of national or international science and technology awards, or those who have made an outstanding contribution to the city's culture, arts, media, publications and sports.
Those who enjoy high prestige in China in scientific research and education, and those who are leading talents in medical care and research in the city are also eligible. Other eligible candidates include those who have made outstanding contributions to the city's finance, logistics, information service and equipment manufacturing industries.
