199 competitors on Saturday (July 10) took an exam for a volunteers program which will select 16 of them for a one-year civil service in Republic of Seychelles, an island country in the East Africa.

Nine doctors and nurses, two piano teachers, one Mandarin teacher, and four civil engineers will be selected for the service which is set to start at the end of this month. They will provide volunteer services in health care, music education, Mandarin language training and houses and infrastructure construction.

The program has been enjoying a groundswell of enthusiasm since it received application on June 23. The organizers received more than 1700 inquiry calls in merely a week, and 199 competitors rushed to submit their applications. The competition for the post of Mandarin is the most tense-57 teachers from Dongguan's schools plunged into the competition.
