Thirty Chinese-American teens from Lowell High School in California in the United States, the first group from a program for overseas Chinese teenagers, began a 10-day trip to seek their roots in China, according to a report from People's Daily.

They will visit Guangzhou Pui Ching Middle School and Guangzhou No.7 High School to communicate with and befriend Guangdong students. There they will experience local conditions and customs in Guangzhou.

The "Travel to Seek Roots in China" program for overseas Chinese adolescents aims at promoting communication between Chinese and foreign students. It provides a platform of study and communication for overseas Chinese adolescents who wish to return to China for study.

The first group of 30 overseas Chinese teens will experience Chinese culture, especially Lingnan culture. Meanwhile, the lively and interactive teaching activities will help Guangdong students further understand and experience the teaching and learning mode abroad, learn about the foreign history and culture and improve their English.

According to sources, the 30 overseas Chinese adolescents will live with the Chinese students' families from July 12 to July 21. In addition, Chinese and foreign students will also participate in activities like friendly competitions on culture or sports and take part in an ecological study tour in Guangzhou.
