The 2011 Universiade organizing committee is inviting college students around the world to submit their own pictures or videos featuring smiling faces and greetings to mark the one-year countdown to the Games.
Students can upload their works onto http://xiaolian.tmi.cn and the organizing committee will select the best examples to display during the one-year countdown evening celebrations Aug. 12.
Given the theme "Tell the World", the celebrations will be held at Shenzhen Stadium in Futian District. About 30,000 people, including government officials and foreign diplomats in Guangdong, are expected to attend the event.
The Universiade medal and torch designs will be unveiled during the celebrations, which are expected to feature performances by big names such as pop star Jay Chou and pianist Lang Lang.
About 1,000 Chinese and American students signed on to welcome the Universiade at the Citizens' Center on Saturday, 100 of whom painted greetings on a "best wishes" wall.
A total of 250 U.S. teachers, students and parents are in town to attend the 14-day 2010 China-U.S. Cultural and Art Exchange Festival, which closes Sunday.
The Universiade organizing committee will conduct a contest for photos showing a panorama of Shenzhen. The second cartoon and animation festival would also be held to celebrate the one-year countdown, the committee said.
In other Universiade preparations, a total of eight translation service providers have been selected for the Games to provide interpretations and a 16-million-word translation during the Games. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is the only university among the eight language service providers.
A total of 1,000 tour buses will be put aside for transport during the Games, according to the transport department of the organizing committee.
The department will decide traffic control measures during the Games after a detailed research is completed.
