Dongping Daya is one of the oldest pawnshops in Guangzhou and the only one in Chinese mainland to have been turned into a museum. This "pawnshop museum" is located in a "Diaolou", a 400 square-meter old traditional watch tower made from bricks and timber. It shall open to the public free of charge in August.
Three stories will be opened to visitors with the first floor exhibiting a replica of a pawnshop from the early Qing Dynasty; the second floor displaying historical pictures and documents; the third one for the development and reform of the pawn business in modern times.
