After nearly two years of renovation, the 63-storey building on Huanshi Road previously known as Guangdong International Hotel will become Crowne Plaza Hotel, managed by InterContinental Hotels Group. The hotel will open this November, Information Times reports.
To cater for the surge in the number of visitors to Guangzhou during the 16th Asian Games, the group has renovated 463 rooms including luxury rooms and suites for members of foreign official delegations. By the time the Games open in November, InterContinental Hotels Group will have three Crowne Plaza Hotels and two Holiday Inns in Guangzhou.
But Guangzhou already has 22 five-star hotels and by November, over 300 hotels should be receiving guests. One industry insider explained that room prices dropped 10% last year amidst the financial crisis. This November, room price are expected to jump 10% 20%.
