The Guangzhou-Foshan (Guangfo) Metro, linking Kuqi Road in Foshan with Xilang in Guangzhou is a centerpiece in the cooperation between the two neighbors. Originally scheduled to be completed ahead of the 16th Asian Games, unconfirmed reports mention delays as only 90% of the project is completed. Although nor the government or the metro operator have commented on the issue, the opening date is thought to be on December 3rd 2010.
The Guangfo line is 32.16 km in length with 21 stations. Trains should run every 8 minutes, carrying up to 900 people. The second phase of the construction will not be completed until 2013. By that time, the Guangfo line should connect in Guangzhou with line 1, 2, 3 and 8. According to the Foshan transportation blueprint, the city will build 8 lines of which 5 will connect with Guangzhou metro's network.
