Tropical storm "Lionrock" and Typhoon Kompasu would bring gusty winds and heavy rainfalls to Dongguan this week, Dongguan Meteorological Bureau warned on Monday (Aug 30).
The storm "Lionrock" which started Sunday (August 29) morning in the South China Sea, was moving northeast at a speed of 5 to 10 kilometers per hour, said the National Meteorological Center (NMC) in a statement on its website.
Its center was located about 410 kilometers south of Shantou City, Guangdong Province, at 11 a.m. Sunday. It is expected to affect Dongguan by bringing heavy rains from September 2 to September 3.
Typhoon Kompasu would also make land on Dongguan this week. With the two stroms, Dongguan would see a windy and rainy week, observatories said.
Flood control authorities in Dongguan on Monday reminded local residents to pay attention to weather forecasts and guard against flash floods that might be triggered by the storm.
