Interim compensation offered to crash families

Henan Airlines had paid out 360,000 RMB (53,000 USD) in interim compensation yesterday (Aug 29) to families of those killed and injured in the air crash in Yichun on Tuesday, its largest shareholder, Shenzhen Airlines, said.

Each family has received 10,000 RMB but full compensation had not been finalized, the company said.

Liang Jiakun, vice chief of the State Administration of Work Safety and head of the investigation team, said Saturday that compensation plans would be determined as soon as possible.

Li Jian, vice director of the General Administration of Civil Aviation (CAAC), said Saturday the investigation would take some time.

By Saturday, 45 of the 54 survivors on board the Brazil-made ERJ-190 that crashed on landing Tuesday night had been transferred to other hospitals.

Among the injured were two from Guangdong, including Ou Zhenzhi, head of the provincial human resources and social insurance department. Ou, 55, who suffered serious spinal injuries, was transferred back to Guangzhou on Friday for further treatment.

The Yangtze Evening News in Jiangsu Province reported Saturday that CAAC had ruled out pilot fatigue, quoting CAAC press official Zhong Ning.

The Henan Administration for Industry and Commerce said Friday it had revoked the name change of the airline from Kunpeng Airlines to Henan Airlines, which was approved in September last year, adding that the name misled the public and tarnished the province's image.

It said the administration was justified by law to revoke any name change of a company which was either misleading or harmed the provincial interest.

The company was founded by Shenzhen Airlines and two overseas companies in 2007 but the provincial government did not invest in it, the Henan administration for industry and commerce said.
