Guangdong will enact regulations to protect animals used for experimental or scientific purposes by ensuring that they are adequately cared for and that no unnecessary pain or suffering is inflicted upon them. The regulation will take effect beginning October 1st.
The regulations stipulate that animals used for experiments must be given an anaesthetic and euthanasia must be performed. Director with Guangdong Experimental Animals Monitoring Institute Huang Ren said: "we should concern about both the welfare and ethic issues of experimental animals. Just monitoring won't be enough. Self-discipline, monitoring and punishment must be used at the same time. "
