For the second time so far, Guangzhou will test a series of vehicle limitation measures, including the odd-or-even number plate rule. The 4-day trial shall take place from September 11th to 14th. Furthermore, priority lanes are to be set-up for official Asian Games vehicles. These shall also be tested during the trial on Huanshi Road and Tianhe Road, from 6:00 to 22:00.
At a press conference held yesterday (Sept. 6) by the local authories, the results of the first test were presented as positive, with better visibility and traffic conditions although this has not been verified independently. Some problems did occur however, with a large proportion of drivers fined not from Guangzhou, a definite sign communication outside of Guangzhou was weak. The authorities have decided on new measures to improve the results.
1. Vehicles without green environmental protection labels are banned to drive on the roads in Guangzhou's administrative districts from 0:00 on Sept. 11st (Saturday) to 24:00 on Sept. 14th. (Tuesday).
2. Vehicles with their license plate ending with an odd-number (1,3,5,7,9) can drive on odd days whilst those with an even number (2,4,6,8,0) can only drive on even days from 8:00 to 20:00.
3. Vehicles exempted from the ban include: government officials and military, police vehicles, fire engines, official Asian Games cars, buses, coaches and taxies, consulate and embassy vehicles.
