A set of commemorative stamps of the Opening Ceremony of the 16th Asian Games will be released on November 12, the day when the Games is inaugurated, according to the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) and China Post Guangdong, which held a joint press conference at the Guangzhou V-Space International Sports Mall on Monday (September 27). Liu Jiangnan, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC, and Wen Shaoqi, Deputy General Manager of China Post Guangdong, attended the press conference and unveiled nine categories of official Games-time postal items.

Mr Liu said sports, music and philately are three universal languages of mankind. He believes Asiad themed postal items will play a unique role in the promotion of the Guangzhou Asian Games and Chinese culture.

There will be a total of 20 categories of Games-time postal items under four series: the Comprehensive Series, the Opening Ceremony Venue Series, the Gold Medals & Records Series and the Classic Collection Series. They will elegantly present highlights of the Opening Ceremony and competitions of Guangzhou 2010.

From September 28 to October 31, the public can order the nine categories of Games-time postal items that have been released at post offices across Guangdong Province. Each person can order up to five sets under a category.

On behalf of China Post Guangdong, Mr Wen presented a complete collection of classic postal items of the Games to GAGOC. Named "Glorious Asian Games", the album will be kept in the Guangzhou Asian Games Museum.

Xie Xingfang, a retired world champion of badminton who works for GAGOC at present, was appointed the Ambassador of Asian Games Philatelic Culture.
