The museum is said to be divided into four parts. The first part presents the history of the Nanyue Kingdom. The second shall stress the magnificence of the palace and its gardens. The third part exhibits relics and archives about Guangzhou in general. The last part focuses on Guangzhou's water well culture.
The museum is built on top of the ancient palace but all the ruins are covered by transparent glass offering an amazing view of the 2000-year old structure.
