A press conference was held by the Development and Reform Commission of Guangzhou Municipality (DRCGM) on Wednesday and Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) at the Main Press Centre with Chen Haotian, Deputy Director of DRCGM reviewing the Green Asian Games and low-carbon economy development of Guangzhou.

Mr Chen said that furthering the concept of low-carbon development, making the city fit for living met the objective of the Asian Games, which also is one of important themes of "Welcome Asian Games to Make Good Life".
At the same time, with more technology, remarkable energy reducing achievements and rapid low-carbon industry development, there are extremely advantageous issues in the low-carbon economy development for Guangzhou.
Director Chen said that Guangzhouwould further promote green economy development plan and low-carbon urban development summary and develop low-carbon economy comprehensively.
The plan would be established in 2011 with low-carbon emissions for production method and life style promoted. With the establishment of industrial low-carbon characteristics, the unit GDP energy consumption would fall to 0.54-0.56 tons standard coal, the carbon emissions intensity of which would surpass the same period standard of GuangdongProvinceand the country.
Simultaneously five tasks must be carried out for better formation and development of low-carbon city, which were industrial structure promotion, clean energy using promotion, low-carbon industry development supporting, low-carbon urban construction advancement and low-carbon life style initiative.
Finally, Director Chen stressed that "Ten big projects" must be paid more attention, including low-carbon industry promotion project, highly effective using of energy project, low-carbon technology development application project, carbon collects industrial development project, efficiency promotion for comprehensive utilisation of resources, green construction promotion project, low-carbon transportation project low-carbon garden area demonstration project, carbon market cultivation project and the low-carbon expense pattern foundation project, with which low-carbon Guangzhou would be solidly advanced.
With the establishment of effective and consummation mechanisms, the enhancement of low-carbon work synthesis coordination, exploration of effective government guidance and drive policy, the financing system of low-carbon development would form mainly absorbing society investment under the government guidance.
