Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that the State Council, China's Cabinet, is drafting measures to suppress sharp rises of commodity prices which concerns people's immediate interests.
Wen made the remarks during his visit to Guangzhou city of south China's Guangdong Province from Nov. 11 to 12 before attending the opening ceremony of the Guangzhou Asian Games.
Wen urged local governments to ensure supplies for daily food and other necessities to maintain market orders.
In visiting a biochemical research institution under Chinese Academy of Sciences in Guangzhou, the premier encouraged scientists and researchers to make more achievements in stem cell study to benefit the people.
On Sunday and Monday, Wen made an inspection tour to Guangdong's Zhuhai city, after attending the opening ceremony of the third Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
In Zhuhai's Hengqin island, Wen asked the local government to pay more attention to environmental protection while developing the Hengqin New District.
Visiting a company producing lithium batteries for electric automobiles, Wen said development of China's electric automobile industry was in a critical period and the government would continue to promote the industry with supporting policies.
