In the meteorological base of Guangzhou Tower, staff members are continually examining meteorological devices already installed there.
To acquire observatory data of the atmospheric boundary layer, the Guangdong Meteorology Bureau has set up the world's highest observation lookout in Guangzhou Tower. This record-making observation point, metaphorically nicknamed "meteorological guardian spirit", will provide accurate meteorological data for the opening ceremony of the Asian Games, and bring to Guangzhou citizens first-hand data as to air composition and the wind resistance power of high-rise buildings.
According to Zhi Shiqun, a senior engineer of Guangdong Meteorology Bureau, meteorological observatory devices are installed in three layers of Guangzhou Tower, respectively at the height of 121 meters, 454 meters and 526 meters. The observation facilities include automatic meteorological stations, three-dimensional sonic anemometers, air composition samplers, which gather data concerning wind speed, wind direction, temperature, air pressure, humidity, three-dimensional sonic wind and air composition
