The 2010 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival is inaugurated today in Guangzhou Baiyun International Conference Center and will continue till Dec. 10th. One international first-run film and nine Chinese first-run films will be presented at the festival. As the premier film of this festival, Guangzhou New TV Tower is to unfold this "visual feast" of documentaries.
In the preliminary round of selection, 576 films from 58 countries and regions, including China, Germany and France, were enlisted as candidates for a series of awards, making the festival unprecedented in its history in terms of the number of candidate films. In the second round, a panel of experts from provincial and municipal cultural academies singled out 57 candidate films for the final round.
Between Dec. 2nd and Dec. 6th, a review committee consisting of authoritative international experts is making a final assessment of all 57 candidate films before deciding on the winners. Ten awards will be given, which are Review Committee Award (one winner), Review Committee Special Award (one winner), Best Social and Humanistic Documentary (two), Best Nature and Environment Documentary (one), Best Science and Education Documentary (two), Best History and Culture Documentary (two).
The winners will be revealed at the opening ceremony.
