Shaoguan will host the 2011 Guangdong International Tourism Festival as the main venue, it is the first city apart from capital city to host such festival, according to Zou Yongsong, Deputy Mayor of the People's Government of Shaoguan in a press conference on the city's tourism development on December 3.
It is said that the city has attracted over 1.45 million people in October this year with tourism revenue reaching 938 million RMB, an increase of 10.12 percent and 23.83 percent respectively.
Zou said Shaoguan has abundant tourism resources with profound Buddhist culture and the United Nations World Heritage Danxia Mountain. With the opening of Wuhan-Guangzhou High Speed Railway, Shaoguan is included in the Guangzhou's One-hour Economic Circle. As one of the co-host cities of the 16th Asian Games, Shaoguan's tourism is also greatly boosted the Games.
To build into a city highlighted by tourism, Shaoguan will perfect the tourism blueprint, strengthen marketing and regional cooperation as well as attract investments to build key tourism projects.
