China-Singapore knowledge city project kicks off

A ceremony was held on December 21 at the southern initial zone of the China-Singapore Knowledge City in the Guangzhou Development District to mark the commencement of works for a resident relocation project and roadways. The ceremony signified the official kickoff of the China-Singapore Knowledge City, an iconic strategic project between Guangdong and Singapore.

The Knowledge City project is expected to be listed as a major construction project in the nation's 12th Five-Year Plan, and its first phase, covering an area of 30 square kilometers, will be included into the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development District.

Public consultation has been completed for the detailed zoning control plan for the initial zone of the Knowledge City, and the project's environmental impact assessment report has also passed the review by provincial environmental protection authorities. The initial zone includes three plots of land, totaling 84.

79 hectares, for the Alpha Animation Silicon Valley, the International Healthcare Research Center of Sun Yat-sen University, and other construction projects. Kingfa Science & Technology Carbon Fiber Project, the first project to be based on the Knowledge City, is expected to product 2,000 tons of high-grade PAN carbon fibers per annum, worth approximately RMB 10 billion, after it is completed.

Kingsun Optoelectronic also plans to build a LED R&D center in the zone, and the Wanquan Group has plans to base its south China headquarters in the zone as well.
