The Government has recently started the relocation of water birds to the largest artificial lake in Shijing, Guangzhou. The lake serves as both a water conservation facility and a scenic spot.Cherry trees have been planted and an 8 kilometer-long access route has opened. "Vehicles are not allowed whilst visitors can walk and bike around the lake," explained Zhao Lideng, the head of Baiyun Lake administration office, "at present most of the wetlands have been set-up and footways will be built to make it accessible for visitors.
"The lake should become a public park with 8 viewing points for tourists and a water museum which was previously exhibited during the 2010 Shanghai Worl Expo. In the near future, small passenger boats will connect the lake with downtown Guangzhou.(By Zeng Xuli, David Keyton)
