City leaders would tackle unemployment and social issues to improve the lives of the citizens, a government meeting was told Tuesday.
The city would contain the urban registered unemployment rate to be within 3 percent in 2011 with the average per capita disposable income to reach 35,000 yuan (US$5,140) next year and 49,000 yuan by 2015, Mayor Xu Qin said in a report on the city s social development.
The annual per capita disposable income in Shenzhen averaged 29,245 yuan in 2009.
The average life expectancy in Shenzhen was expected to reach 79 in 2015, Xu said.
The pension program, medical insurance and on-the-job injury insurance would cover 95 percent of all employees with Shenzhen hukou.
The city would also promote the construction of hospitals. The number of doctors per 10,000 residents would reach 26 by 2015. The number of hospital beds would increase by 34 per 10,000 residents during the same period.
We will value the work of social construction equally with economic work. Social construction is a powerful support for social development, Party chief Wang Rong told more than 1,000 representatives at the meeting.
