The Summary and Commendation Congress of Volunteer Service for the Guangzhou Asian Games and Para Games was grandly held in the municipal hall of Guangzhou on the morning of January 13.
Nearly ten thousand Lv Yangyang volunteers and Mu Mianhong volunteers, and over 700 organizations and 100 volunteer service projects were rewarded. The Guangzhou Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Volunteer Department of GAGOC were awarded with "United Nations Volunteer Organization Award of Excellence".
This prestigious award granted by the United Nations to the Guangzhou Community and its organizers, follows on from the Beijing Volunteer Association for the 2008 Olympic Games winning a similar award. Hence once again, in a period of just three years Chinese volunteer community services have been highly praised by the United Nations.
Later in this special commendation ceremony it was announced that the Guangzhou Municipal Government has now established a "Happiness in Guangzhou" Volunteer Service Corps, which will contribute to the concept of happiness and well being in Guangzhou in the post-game era.
