Price hike, salary and the gap between the wealthy and the poor are hot topics in the ongoing Guangdong Committee of CPPCC annual sessions. This session opened yesterday (Jan 20) and will close on Jan 24, with a total of 999 members attended the conference.

The residents' income increase is far from that of commodities price and housing price, pointed out Lu Daxiang, a committee member of CPPCC. He suggested raising workers' salary and lessening people's pressure caused by the price hike.

Chen Gangjun, a provincial committee member of CPPCC, advised government to raise personal income tax threshold and to build a stable salary increase system, adding connecting the index of GDP increase and CPI increase with that of social wage.

To bridge the gap between the wealthy and the poor, the Democratic Alliance of Guangdong Province proposed to adjust the mechanism for income distribution. Other proposals being discussed are like raising social security funds, offering more direct financial subsidies to low-income peasants, such as agricultural restructuring subsidies, subsidies of new technological application and promotion, agricultural insurance benefits and natural disasters subsidies.

Subsidies of education and transport for children in poor family and subsidies for a low income pregnant family are also proposed in the conference.
